The New Hill Resort and Spa is located in the historic heart of Sihanoukville. Overlooking a tranquil deep-sea harbor, the hill is the site of the former residence of the governor of the new Cambodian port town inaugurated in 1959. Hills were the central feature of the original plan for Sihanoukville, also known as Kampong Som (see History). The governors residence has long gone, but the steps on the hill are still there. A former residence of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk is located on a nearby hill, although little remains.
